Advanced Cardiothoracic Surgery services in North Texas

North Texas Cardiothoracic Surgeons provides surgical care for conditions affecting the heart, lungs and chest. If you’ve been referred for surgery, or you’re seeking a second opinion, we’ll help you understand your diagnosis, your options and what comes next.

Heart valve surgery

Heart valves help keep blood moving in the right direction through your heart. When a valve isn’t working well, we may recommend a procedure to repair or replace it.

Our services include:

  • Aortic valve repair or replacement
  • Mitral valve repair or replacement
  • Tricuspid valve repair

Structural heart disease procedures:

  • Aortic valve replacement
  • Mitral valve repair or replacement
  • Tricuspic valve repair
  • Atrial and ventricular septal defect repair
  • Resection of cardiac tumors (myxomas, e.g.)

Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery (CABG)

Coronary artery disease can reduce blood flow to the heart. If bypass surgery is recommended, we’ll explain the procedure in clear terms and walk you through preparation, your hospital stay and recovery.

Additional cardiac procedures we perform:

  • Open MAZE procedures
  • Open or VATS left atrial appendage ligation
  • AICD/Pacemaker placement and pocket revisions
  • ATS or subxiphoid pericardial window

Aortic Surgery

The aorta is the body’s main artery. Some aortic conditions require careful monitoring, and others may require surgery.

Aortic services may include:

  • Surgical treatment for aortic conditions, based on diagnosis and clinical need

Advanced Heart Failure Surgical Care

For some patients with advanced heart failure, surgery may be part of a broader care plan. When appropriate, we coordinate with affiliated programs for evaluation and next steps.

Thoracic Surgery Services (Lungs and Chest)

Thoracic surgery focuses on conditions in the chest other than the heart, including the lungs and mediastinum (the area between the lungs).

Thoracic services may include:

  • Evaluation and surgery for lung nodules, when appropriate
  • Surgical care for lung cancer, when appropriate
  • Minimally invasive thoracic surgery, including video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS), when appropriate
  • Surgery for select mediastinal conditions, based on diagnosis

Thoracic procedures:

  • Robot assisted thoracoscopic procedures for mediastinal mass and lung cancer/pulmonary resections, including thymectomies
  • Minimally invasive and open procedures for pulmonary decortication
  • Treatment of pneumothorax with video assisted thoracoscopic (VATS) pleurodesis
  • Repair and plating of rib and sternal fractures
  • Intercostal nerve cryoablation when appropriate
  • Tunneled pleural catheter placement

Vascular procedures:

  • Carotid and femoral endarterectomies
  • Open and minimally invasive EVAR (Endovascular Aneurysm Repair) of abdominal aortic aneurysms and TEVAR (Thoracic Endovascular Aneurysm Repair) of thoracic aortic aneurysms

Minimally Invasive Surgery Options

Some procedures can be performed using smaller incisions and specialized tools. Not every patient is a candidate, but when minimally invasive options are appropriate, they may support:

  • Less pain after surgery
  • Shorter hospital stays
  • A faster return to daily activities

We’ll review what’s safest and most effective for you.
